Rumor: The Philippines to host Miss International and Miss World in 2017 & 2018
Few more weeks and it's going to be the 65th Miss Universe
pageant already which the Department Of Tourism of the Philippines has been
preparing for many months already and now, rumor has it that they're preparing
for another huge event for 2017 and 2018 that pageant fans here in the
Philippines would love to hear. Rumor has it that they're planning to bring
another two Grand Slam pageant here in the Philippines, Miss International in 2017 and Miss World in
2018.
The Philippines' Department of Tourism initiated a plan to
host Miss International next year in the Philippines and a formal negotiation
might happen. In October, DOT Secretary, Wanda Teo, visited Kylie Verzosa in
Japan after her victory in Miss International 2016.
The initiative on holding Miss International 2017 in Manila
is something that started from small talks that allegedly originated from the
country’s Department of Tourism. And 15 hours before Christmas, I am telling
you now that if everything goes beyond loose lip service and a Philippine
delegation flies to Tokyo, Japan to make formal negotiations, then I would be
genuinely thrilled for the dream event becoming a reality.
Miss International competition has been held in the
Philippines twice and consecutively from 1980 to 1981. Wouldn’t it just be more
exciting to see the surviving Japan-based pageant (that has honored the
Filipina six times now) to finally land on our shores? And with Kylie Verzosa
as the reigning titleholder, crowning her successor here would be the real
icing on the cake.
I'm ecstatic about this because I think it's time for Miss
International and Miss World to be staged here in the Philippines. There are
plans of bringing these pageants in the past, but it never pushed through. If
DOT of the Philippines can get sponsors for this pageant without the government
spending a dime on it, then they could get a nod easily with President Duterte
and if they can staged the Miss Universe pageant successfully, which I think
they will, this coming January then they can definitely do the same for Miss
International and Miss World. Seeing the reigning queen Kylie Verzosa crown her
successor in the Philippines would be the real icing on the cake. Take note
though that nothing is final yet, but if plans will push through then this
would be another opportunity to showcase the Philippines INTERNATIONALY or to
the WORLD.
