If you remember the 90's, you remember the glorious years of the pageant powerhouse India. Year after year India sent great women that were very competitive. But then something changed.

The Miss India's that followed were a little fake and very rehearsed. And that was their downfall. They studied the successful Miss India and started copying them and it really became obvious that they weren't their own best self. Instead, they were pretending to be someone else. That's exactly what i think of Catriona. I LOVE Catriona. She has soooo much beauty and elegance but at Miss World she wasn't her own person. Catriona's beauty and elegance got her to a well deserved Top 5 spot.

Catriona had a prepared answer for the Top 5. In fact, her answer was similar to her Miss World Philippines answer. Now, I'm pretty sure that not every one watching the show may have heard that answer before but some of the judges (at least one if not more) had heard Catriona deliver that prepared answer before. As far as I remember, Miss World requires national directors to submit tapes of their national pageant. I'm pretty sure Julia Morley had heard Catriona deliver the similar answer during the Miss World Philippines. The other judges could have easily seen it to because it widely available on youtube. I hadn't seen the Miss World Philippines pageant but when I felt Catriona could win the crown, I started to look up clips of her on youtube and her answer was one of the 3 clips I saw about her. I'm not a judge so I have no need to be as thorough as they do. If I could identify that the answer was similar to her Miss World Philippines answer. The other problem with her answer was that she had prepared for a very different question. The traditional Miss World Top 5 question has always been - "Why do you think you deserve to be Miss World". This year, they didn't ask that question. Instead, Catriona got asked What qualities do you think a Miss World should have. Catriona started off by answer the question she was asked but then went straight to answering the question she wasn't asked.That was the 2nd give away that she had rehearsed her answer a little too much.

Fanatic Filipinos just like Fanatic Indians of the early 2000's created a hostile environment.I have a lot of Filipinos friends and I adore them but some of the Filipino pageant fans can be extreme. Does it affect the outcome? I don't know but I sure think people tend to gravitate toward nicer people. Again, this is not a generalization of the entire filipino population because I personally know many filipinos who are amazing. However, many Filipino pageant fans have a tendency to constantly attack other countries. This fanatics has created a general dislike of filipino queens. I feel that the current batch of cocky filipino fans are like that cocky batch of Indians from the early 2000's. Unfortunately though, I think it may be a little more extreme with filipinos, maybe because the internet has evolved considerably since then. This is a real problem because you really create an environment where every other country hates you. This year there were many contestants who felt bullied by Filipino pageant fans to the point where some even complained to their fellow contestants. Do you really think that after being bullied a contestant is going to think highly of the country that is bullying them? Catriona had to issue a statement to request Filipinos to stop the bullying. Why do you think she had to do this?Do you think a judge witnessing all the bullying would be more inclined to select a Miss Philippines as Miss World or less inclined?

Some of the hard-core pageant fanatics claimed that the reason why Catriona Gray was not favored to win the Miss World 2016 crown was because of the two national directors from Puerto Rico Wilnelia Merced - Forsyth and Liliana Tanoesoedibjo from Indonesia. Others claimed that it was because of the Philippines's refusal of Miss World Organization's proposal through Megan young to host the Miss World 2014 pageant but embraced Miss Universe Organization's offer to hold the pageant in Manila for the third time.
